Thread whirl cutters in action
As an alternative to classical tapping and thread forming, milling and whirling technology is enjoying increasing popularity.
Dear interested parties,
As an alternative to classical tapping and thread forming, milling and whirling technology is enjoying increasing popularity. With one tool, different thread tolerances or thread sizes with the same pitch can be produced, both right-handed and left-handed threads can be milled, a wide variety of materials can be machined and thin-walled and interrupted threads can be better produced.
The thread whirlers are quasi shortened thread milling cutters and function according to the same principle. In the following video you can see how the 5000 series for the perfect thread compares to the 3000 series for classic whirling. On the one hand, we have a left-hand cutting tool that moves from top to bottom and also machines the core diameter so that the highest demands on geometry and burr-free surface are met. Of course, you should use internal cooling on the 5000 series to achieve full performance and function.
With the 3000 series, the tool is moved from bottom to top to minimise pressure on the tool cutting edge and achieve better tool life. As a right-hand cutting tool, it has 2 cutting rows and solves tasks up to a depth of 4xD. Depending on the machine possibilities and the material to be machined, you can choose from different coatings with or without internal cooling. Information on our range, tool selection and cutting parameters can be found in our TM catalogue or on our website using the TASK finder.
Of course, our sales and application team is also available to help you make the right choice. Enjoy watching the video with the application M6 in brass!
